NORTH SCOTT EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE AWARDED IN 2013-2014

Endowed Scholarships

The Alfred and Helen Arp Scholarship (A need-based scholarship determined by completion of the FAFSA form. To be considered for these scholarships students must turn in a photocopy of the Student Aid Report (SRA) to the HS Guidance Office. These scholarships are awarded to students who will be attending one of the three Iowa state-supported universities or an accredited two year community college in Iowa.) ($5,000 each, four recipients)

The “Bear” Stevens Scholarship (Awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership qualities and have been active in school and community activities. This scholarship is for any post high school education i.e. technical school, community college or 4-year college or university.) ($2,000 each, two recipients)

The Mickey McArthur Memorial Scholarship (Open to any NS graduate) ($3000 each, two recipients)

The Porter-Robinson Family Scholarship (Open to any NS graduate) ($2500 each, two recipients)

The High School Science Faculty Science Scholarship (Awarded to an individual who is hard-working, respectful and considerate of other students and the faculty, and who demonstrates an interest in furthering his/her education in the sciences.) ($2000, one recipient)

The Melvin E. Heiler Scholarship (Open to any NS graduate) ($750 each, two recipients)

The Wilma Zabel Scholarship (Awarded to a female student attending SCC) ($750, two recipients)

The Bessie Sierk Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a student who has been active in school and community activities and plan to pursue a degree in elementary education) ($1000, one recipient)

The Makenzie Tank Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a NS graduate planning to attend Iowa State University or University of Northern Iowa) ($1000, one recipient)

The Brockhouse Family Scholarship (A need-based scholarship determined by completion of the FAFSA from. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must turn in a photocopy of the Student Aid Report (SRA) to the HS Guidance Office.) ($800, one recipient)

The Tina Van De Wiele Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a female student who has been active in school and community activities) ($900, one recipient)

The Mike Richlen Memorial Scholarship (Equal consideration will be given to two and four year college applicants with GPA’s of 3.5 or less.) ($750, one recipient)

The Dr. Tim Dose Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a student with a 2.5-3.5 GPA, who is involved in extra-curricular activities. This scholarship is for any post high school education, i.e. technical school, community college, or 4-year college or university.) ($900, one recipient)

The Peggy Schneckloth-Darland Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a female student whose major emphasis has been high school business education and who plans to pursue an education in the area of business.)($500, one recipient)

The Judith Jacobs Performing Arts Scholarship (Awarded to a student with a 3.25 GPA or higher who has been active in three of the following: speech, drama, vocal music, instrumental music and/or dance. And, who plans to major in one of the performing arts or major in secondary education with a minor in one of the performing arts. ($250, one recipient)

The Virgil Grissom PTA Scholarship (Awarded to a graduate with a 2.5 GPA or higher who is active in extracurricular activities and who attended Virgil Grissom Elementary School for at least 4 years including the 6th grade year.) ($250, one recipient)

Annually Funded Scholarships

The Happy and Evelyn Schlunsen Scholarship (Awarded to a student who plans to attend a 4-year college or university.) ($6000, one recipient)

The Happy and Evelyn Schlunsen Scholarship (Awarded to a student who plans to attend a community college) ($4000, one recipient)

The Jean Mohr Bennett Memorial Scholarship (Open to any NS graduate.) ($2300, one recipient)

Dr. Raymond Oles Math/Computer Science Scholarship (Awarded to a senior who plans to enter the field of math or computer science and who is active in extra-curricular activities.) ($900, one recipient)

The Porter Insurance Scholarships (Open to any NS graduate.) ($750, two recipients)

The Dennis Shannon Memorial Scholarship (Open to any NS graduate.) ($500, one recipient)

The North Scott Educational Foundation Scholarships (Open to any NS graduate.) ($500 each, seven recipients)

The Roy and Myrtle Keppy Scholarships (These “Friends of Agriculture” scholarships are awarded to any NS graduate furthering his/her education in any field of study.) ($500 each, five recipients)

The Brett Miller Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a NS graduate planning to pursue a degree in automotive studies. The degree may be obtained at a junior college or trade school.) ($500, one recipient)

The Charlotte Mohr Memorial Nursing Scholarships (Two scholarships awarded to students entering the field of nursing. ($500 each, two recipients)

The Paul Meyer Chemicals, Inc. Scholarship (Open to any NS graduate.) ($500, one recipient)

The Countryside Community Theatre Scholarship (Awarded to a student who has been an active member in a CCT production, either on or behind stage, and pursuing a major or minor degree in the Fine Arts.) ($500, one recipient)

The Jeremy Moreland Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a student majoring in special education or speech/occupational /physical therapy.) ($500, one recipient)

The Blake Sievers Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a student who will be entering an agricultural-related area of study.) ($500, one recipient)

The PFLAG Scholarship (Awarded to a gay or straight student who supports inclusion.) ($500, one recipient)

The Art Blavat Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a North Scott Graduate active in extracurricular activities.) ($500, one recipient)

The Arline Darland Music Scholarship (Awarded to a graduate planning to enter the field of music.) ($300, one recipient)

The Jeff Mitchell Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to an education major.) ($300, one recipient)

The North Scott Wrestling Club Scholarship (Awarded to a graduate with at least a 3.0 GPA who has a minimum or two years of high school wrestling, including the senior year.) ($500, one recipient)

The Ambrose Kearney Memorial Scholarship (Awarded to a graduate who attended Virgil Grissom Elementary School.) ($250, one recipient)

NORTH SCOTT EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION GRANTS

Funding is granted each year by the North Scott Educational Foundation for various school-sponsored educational experiences. These vary from year to year and rely on requests made by the schools. Some of these grants include:

  • History Day National Competitions
  • National Leadership Conferences
  • North Scott Jazz Band National Competitions

Grants funded through the Foundation from outside sources…FFA Grants, Lancer Productions Grants, etc.
